My copper artwork and mixed media collages are inspired by a brief foray into quilting and my experimentation with copper patinas. I like the element of surprise; depending on the temperature and application of the copper, I never know exactly what I will get. I find the colors and organic quality of the oxidized copper surfaces to be incredibly beautiful, especially when light plays across the surface. I love using multiple patterns, textures and colors together, and I am exploring the combination of patinated and embossed copper with other material to achieve that effect.
Throughout my 28 years as a decorative painter, I have used a variety of materials and techniques. I am interested in using that knowledge to explore the place where decorative art becomes fine art, and the long contested boundaries between art and craft.
